Our Teaching Techniques
We build fundamental dance movement skills by spending part of each lesson working without a partner in front of the studio mirrors. During the beginning hour we work on simple movements like the Charleston, and we progress at a comfortable, non-intimidating pace. In the intermediate class we practice footwork, pivots, shuffles, slides and spins.
We teach three swing dances, Balboa, Charleston and Lindy Hop, and blend them together. Each dance has strengths for different types of music, and each emphasizes different dance techniques. With fundamental skills in these three dances, you'll be able to handle any style of swing music.
July Topics
The Beginning class will cover five basic Lindy Hop moves; the underarm turn, underarm turn to closed, Charleston in closed, swing-out from closed, and swing-out from open.
In the Intermediate class we'll work on swing-out variations, and moves for switching and stealing partners.
